Slow News Day?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Being from Winnipeg, I'm a little bit embarassed that one of our two newspapers decided to run this on their cover. You would think the five Canadian soldiers killed during their mission to Afghanistan would have been a more apt story or the mayoral race which is currently underway; not the birthday of a diva who's new CD induces headaches. For shame Winnipeg Sun. For shame.

Jessica Simpson - "Public Affair" review

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Jessica Simpson has always been the D-list Britney Spears. However, after bringing the term "dumb blonde" to a whole lower level, she has achieved fame in her own right. This being her "coming out" record after divorcing Nick Lachey, the album is filled with party anthems and orgasmic moans. Surprisingly, it's not as bad as I thought it would be and there are a few pop gems (if you can look past the fact that Jessica is singing them). Take for instance, 'Swing With Me' which sounds as good (if not better) than anything on Christina Aguilera's 'Back To Basics' (I can see this being released as a single to ride Baby Jane's retro wave) or 'Fired Up' which would be hella hot accompanied by a Britney-esque video.

WEIRDEST TRACK: "Push Your Tush" (the lyrics may or may not be about giving anal to Johnny Knoxville)

Justin Timberlake - "FutureSex/LoveSounds" review

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Putting aside J.T.'s douchebag behaviour while promoting this release (drug talk, slamming other artists), I gotta admit, he brings the goods! Out of all the major new pop releases ('Back to Basics', 'B'Day', 'Public Affair'), this is by far the catchiest, most innovative recording. It not only brings "sexyback" so to speak - from the aching libido of 'FutureSex/LoveSound', to the bombastic romance of 'My Love' - it brings new style to tired, standard pop music.
